Prior to that Mr Mahlalela worked as Director responsible for Public Transport at the Department of Transport –KwaZulu-Natal. He was also at some point Acting Taxi Registrar.

                                                                               

Before that Mr Mahlalela worked as a Training Programme Manager at the University of Durban Westvilleinvolved in the following: Conducting training programs for Urban Development Workers around Durbancommunities. He also coordinated training programmes for development workers in Kwa Zulu-Natal.

Prior to that Mr Mahlalela worked at the University of the Western Cape as a  Local Government Training Manager responsible for co-coordinating a specialized training program for civic organizations in all provinces.
