CIVIL AVIATION OFFENCES AMENDMENT ACT NO. 63 OF 1978 [ASSENTED TO 2 MAY, 1978][DATE OF COMMENCEMENT: 23 JUNE, 1978] (English text signed by the State President) ACT To amend the Civil Aviation Offences Act, 1972, in order to extend the scope of existing offences; to provide for measures directed at the more effective control of the security of aircraft, airports and the like; and to provide for incidental matters. 1. Amends section 1 of the Civil Aviation Offences Act, No. 10 of 1972, as follows:— paragraph (a) inserts the definition of “aerodrome”; paragraph (b) inserts the definitions of “air navigation facility”, “airport”, “airport manager”, “authorized person” and “board”; paragraph (c) inserts the definitions of “harmful article”, “heliport” and “Minister”; paragraph (d) inserts the definitions of “restricted area” and “search”; and paragraph (e) inserts the definition of “this Act”. 2. Amends section 2 of the Civil Aviation Offences Act, No. 10 of 1972, as follows:— paragraph (a) substitutes paragraphs (d), (e), (f), (fA) and (g) for paragraphs (d), (e), (f) and (g); and paragraph (b) adds subsections (2) and (3), the existing section becoming subsection (1). 3. Inserts sections 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G, 2H, 2I, 2K, 2L and 2M in the Civil Aviation Offences Act, No. 10 of 1972. 4. Amends section 3 (2) of the Civil Aviation Offences Act, No. 10 of 1972, by substituting the expression “section 2 (1) (a) (i)” for the expression “section 2 (a) (i)”. 5. Substitutes the long title of the Civil Aviation Offences Act, No. 10 of 1972. 6. Short title and commencement.—(1) This Act shall be called the Civil Aviation Offences Amendment Act, 1978, and shall come into operation on a date to be determined by the State President by proclamation in the Gazette. (2) The State President may under subsection (1) fix different dates in respect of different provisions of this Act.
