ACT

To amend the Merchant Shipping Act, 1951.

1.   Substitution in Act 57 of 1951 for the word “Director” of 
the word “Secretary”.—The Merchant Shipping Act, 1951 
(hereinafter referred to as the principal Act), is hereby amended 
by the substitution for the word “Director” wherever it occurs of 
the word “Secretary”.

2 to 4 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections of 
the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—1, 2, 3.

5.   Substitutes section 5 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 
of 1951.

6 and 7.   Amend respectively sections 6 and 9 of the Merchant 
Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951.

8 and 9.   Substitute respectively sections 32 and 33 of the 
Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951.

10 to 17 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—35, 41 42, 55, 
68, 73, 80, 101.

18.   Substitutes section 104 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 
57 of 1951.

19.   Amends sections 120 to 124 inclusive of the Merchant 
Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951.

20 to 29 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—126, 140, 141, 
164, 180, 188, 207, 212, 214, 218.

30.   Repeals section 230 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 
of 1951.

31 to 42 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—237, 249, 261, 
273, 274, 298, 301, 311, 326, 327, 355, 356.

43.   Amends the First Schedule to the Merchant Shipping Act, 
No. 57 of 1951.

[Note.—S. 43, in so far as the amendment of Act No. 70 of 
1957 is concerned, repealed by s. 76 of Act No. 65 of 1981.]

44.   Short title.—This Act shall be called the Merchant 
Shipping Amendment Act, 1959.
