MERCHANT SHIPPING AMENDMENT ACT

ACT

To amend the Merchant Shipping Act, 1951.

1 to 11 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections of 
the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—2, 3, 6, 11, 13, 
14, 30, 64, 65, 68, 73.

12.   (1)  Amends section 75 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 
57 of 1951.

(2)  Any certificate of competency granted for the grade of chief 
engineer-officer or second engineer-officer before the coming 
into operation of subsection (1) shall be deemed to have been 
granted in respect of a foreign-going ship and any such 
certificate shall on production thereof to the Secretary be 
endorsed to that effect by him.

13.   Amends section 79 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 
of 1951.

14.   Amends section 80 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 
of 1951 (date of commencement 1 January, 1960).

15 to 27 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—81, 83, 85, 86, 
97, 103, 106, 110, 112, 126, 152, 156, 161.

28.   Amends sections 175 and 176 of the Merchant Shipping 
Act, No. 57 of 1951.

29 to 40 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—177, 196, 200, 
203, 204, 208, 212, 216, 218, 219, 220, 221.

41.   Amends sections 225 and 228 of the Merchant Shipping 
Act, No. 57 of 1951.

42 to 53 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—235, 236, 237, 
251, 260, 264, 266, 269, 279, 298, 311, 317.

54.   Substitutes section 332 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 
57 of 1951.

55 to 59 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—333, 339, 345, 
355, 356.

60.   Inserts section 356bis in the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 
57 of 1951.

61.   Amends section 357 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 
of 1951 (date of commencement 1 January, 1960).

62.   Substitution in Act 57 of 1951 for the words “Union” and 
“Governor-General” of the words “Republic” and “State 
President”, respectively.—Subject to the preceding provisions 
of this Act, the principal Act is hereby amended by the 
substitution for the word “Union”, wherever it occurs, of the 
word “Republic” and for the word “Governor-General”, 
wherever it occurs, of the words “State President”.

63.   Short title.—This Act shall be called the Merchant 
Shipping Amendment Act, 1963.
