MERCHANT SHIPPING AMENDMENT ACT

ACT

To amend the Merchant Shipping Act, 1951.

1.   Amends section 2 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 
1951 (date of commencement 13 March, 1968).

2.   Amends section 3 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 
1951 (date of commencement 28 May, 1965).

3.   Amends section 68 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 
1951 (date of commencement 13 March, 1968).

4 to 7 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections of 
the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—77, 79, 90, 93 
(date of commencement 28 May, 1965).

8 to 17 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections of 
the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—190, 191, 192, 
193, 194, 195, 197, 198, 200, 202 (date of commencement 13 
March, 1968).

18.   Amends section 203 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 
of 1951 (date of commencement 28 May, 1965).

19 to 22 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—207, 209, 210, 
212 (date of commencement 13 March, 1968).

23.   Substitutes section 215 of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 
57 of 1951 (date of commencement 13 March, 1968).

24 to 28 inclusive.   Amend respectively the following sections 
of the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 57 of 1951:—216, 219, 220, 
223, 239 (date of commencement 13 March, 1968).

29.   Inserts section 343bis in the Merchant Shipping Act, No. 
57 of 1951 (date of commencement 28 May, 1965).

30.   Short title and commencement.—This Act shall be called 
the Merchant Shipping Amendment Act, 1965, and shall come 
into operation on a date to be fixed by the State President by 
proclamation in the Gazette: Provided that the State President 
may from time to time by proclamation in the Gazette bring into 
operation only such portions of this Act as he may specify in 
such proclamation.
