RAILWAY PURCHASE ACT NO. 25 OF 1971 [ASSENTED TO 29 MARCH, 1971][DATE OF COMMENCEMENT: 31 MARCH, 1971] (Afrikaans text signed by the State President) ACT To provide for the purchase and equipment of a certain line of railway and for matters incidental thereto. 1. Purchase and equipment of a certain line of railway.—(1) The State President may, as soon after the commencement of this Act as to him may seem expedient, cause to be purchased from the Electricity Supply Commission (established under the Electricity Act, 1922 (Act No. 42 of 1922)) a line of railway of a gauge of one thousand and sixty-five millimetres, approximately forty-eight kilometres long, extending from a junction at Broodsnyersplaas Station to a terminal point on the farm Tweefontein No. 458-JS., District of Middelburg in the Province of the Transvaal, at a cost not exceeding four million rand. (2) The powers conferred by this section shall include the power to construct and equip all sidings, stations, buildings and other appurtenances necessary for or incidental to the proper working of the said line of railway. 2. Cost of purchase and equipment.—The cost of purchase and equipment of the line of railway authorized by section 1 shall be defrayed out of any loan raised by the State President under the authority of law and appropriated for that purpose by Parliament, or out of any other moneys so appropriated. 3. Powers incidental to purchase and equipment.—In respect of the purchase and equipment of the said line of railway, the State President shall have the powers conferred by the Railway Expropriation Act, 1955 (Act No. 37 of 1955), but subject to the obligations imposed by that Act: Provided that the width of the land taken for the railway line shall not exceed thirty-three metres, together with such additional land as may be required for the slopes, cuttings, drainage, stations, approach roads and other works and matters which may be necessary for the purposes of the line. 4. Short title.—This Act shall be called the Railway Purchase Act, 1971.
