Arrive Alive

Since the launch of Arrive Alive as the lead campaign for the promotion and enforcement of road safety and road-user responsibility in South Africa, road fatalities have fallen by an average 7.4% over each of its first four phases. At least 270 lives have been saved each year since the start of Arrive Alive, at a cost saving to the economy of over R450 million.

Minibus taxis: moving towards a historic breakthrough

The year 2001 has seen the minibus taxi industry taking great strides forward. With a history as volatile as that of the taxi industry there may still be significant hiccups on the road to stability. 

However, I am more and more confident that the industry is now within striking distance of achieving the goals we have all been striving for over the past five years: a legal, regulated, formalised, violence-free industry with the potential to advance broad-based black empowerment on a scale second to no other industry in our country.
