Minister Fikile Mbalula introduced the new Director-General to the Department on 26 July 2019.
Minister Mbalula said: “We need to make DoT a vibrant and functional department so that it can carry its mandate effectively.”
The new DG Mr Alec Moemi said in his speech that the challenges of the department were urgent and needed to be attended to quickly.
“Management can’t work without staff members of the department. We will listen to you and take your concerns seriously. We must get over our internal issues quickly so that we can look outwards.”
Transport entities did not escape a mention in the DG’s address to the staff: “We have to work with our parastatals to make sure that things move. We will guide entities in how they should spend money.”
He urged people to respect their work and said ‘rotten apples will be removed and good employees will be rewarded’.
Addressing the staff, the Deputy Minister of Transport Ms Dikeledi Magadzi said: “You must always be professional because you represent the department. We need to move with the times. We need to infuse industrial revolution in our work. You owe it to the republic to do what you have been employed to do.”
