About us
The National Public Transport Regulator is a regulatory entity established in terms of Section 20 of the National Land Transport Act, 05 of 2009.
It's functions are to
- monitor and oversee public transport in the country;
- receive and decide on applications relating to inter-provincial operating licenses, accreditation of tourist transport services and any other service designated by the Minister;
- oversee fares charged for public transport services throughout the country and advice the Minister on the making of regulations in relation to fares or fare structures.
Overall, the NPTR has a key role to play in promoting a safe, reliable, effective, efficient, coordinated, integrated and environmentally friendly public transport system by developing norms and standards to guide the development of public transport for rural and urban passengers

Mission
To regulate interprovincial public transport and tourism services and monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Public Transport Strategy and the National Land Transport Act.
