Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy and Deputy Minister, Mkhuleko Hlengwa officially led the Road Safety Practitioners’ Colloquium from Wednesday, 02 September 2026 at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre in Ekurhuleni.

Running from 02–04 September, the National gathering convened under the theme “Strengthening Road Safety through Collaboration, Innovation and Accountability.”

Minister’s keynote address set the strategic direction, emphasising that road safety must evolve from a government-led programme into a society movement with urgent challenges, innovative solutions, and concrete commitments as  top of the agenda.

Over the three days of plenary sessions, Practitioners deliberated on pressing road safety issues and showcase forward-thinking interventions.

The colloquium  culminated in the adoption of a national declaration and commitments, establishing clear responsibilities and measurable actions to reduce fatalities and accidents on our South African roads.
