On Sunday, 13 April 2025, Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy and Deputy Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa led a large-scale road safety and law enforcement operation in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, ahead of the busy Easter weekend.

The operation, held on the N2 King Neptune, brought together national, provincial, and metro traffic police along with the South African Police Service and various road safety entities.

The event formed part of the Easter Period Road Safety Campaign, which Minister Creecy launched on 20 March 2025 in Pretoria. Operating under the theme “It

Begins With Me,” the campaign aimed to reduce road fatalities during the high-traffic holiday period through integrated law enforcement and public education.

Stakeholders included interfaith groups, local government departments, and community-based organizations working collaboratively to promote safe road use.
