In a landmark move for South African infrastructure, the Minister of Transport, Ms. Sindisiwe Chikunga, officially handed over the completed R23 national road project in Standerton, Mpumalanga Province, on Monday, 5 February 2024.

This milestone event demonstrated the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the country’s road network, leading to smoother travel and increased economic opportunities. The handover ceremony highlighted the importance of the R23 road for local and regional connectivity, showcasing the government’s efforts to enhance transportation links and accessibility. Minister Chikunga also led an inspection of the R50 national road, emphasizing the comprehensive approach taken to ensure road safety and efficiency meet national standards.

Additionally, the Minister hosted an engagement session at Sakhile Stadium, welcoming local residents to directly engage with government representatives, demonstrating the government’s dedication to listening and responding to citizen needs and concerns for the improvement of public services in a collaborative manner.
