On Monday, August 19, 2024, Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Mkhuleko Hlengwa, made an official visit to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) Road Traffic Training Academy (RTTA) located at Denel College. He was joined by Chris Hlabisa, the Deputy Director-General of Roads, along with other officials from the transport sector.

The Deputy Minister’s visit forms part of his ongoing engagements with Transport entities.

The RTMC Road Traffic Training Academy provides a range of thorough training programs, including a 3-year NQF Level 6 Traffic Officer Program, a 3-year Road Safety Officer Program, skill enhancement courses for current traffic officers, and several short courses such as Crash Investigation, Electronic Driving License (EDL), and Electronic Vehicle License (EOV).

Recently, new trainees were welcomed into the academy on the 3rd and 4th of June 2024. The current trainee cohort consists of 360 males and 200 females, bringing the total number of trainees to 560.

Mr. Hlengwa also delivered a keynote speech and spoke to the newly selected trainees at the RTMC Road Traffic Training Academy at Denel College. He extended his best wishes to the new trainees, urging them to prioritize road safety and to resist the temptation of accepting bribes, as a single bribe could lead to tragic consequences. He also shared insights about the future of traffic officer training in South Africa.

Hlengwa also toured the Boekenhoutkloof Traffic College, conducting an oversight inspection of the facility. During the visit, it was confirmed that the college is nearly finished and almost prepared to welcome trainees. The Deputy Minister pledged to return in three months to review the progress and finalize status of the college.
