The Minister of Transport, Ms. Barbara Creecy, undertook a working visit to Mafikeng in the North West Province on Friday, 17 October 2025, in a significant move to bolster infrastructure development and improve road safety.

The Minister was joined by the North West Municipal and provincial Leadership, for a high- level inspection of road infrastructure projects. The site inspections and handovers were being conducted in close collaboration with the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL), underscoring a unified government approach to infrastructure delivery.

The visit focused on assessing ongoing work and officially handing over completed projects to the community, marking a tangible step forward in the government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and economic opportunities

A key highlight of the visit will be the implementation of the Operation Vala Zonke programme on Martin Street.

This initiative saw the Minister and her counterparts actively participating in significant repair work, demonstrating a hands-on approach to addressing the critical issue of road maintenance and pothole eradication.

This working visit, supported by SANRAL’s technical expertise, underscores the Department of Transport’s ongoing priority to fix the country’s road infrastructure, a commitment recently emphasized during the October Transport Month campaign. It highlights the collaborative efforts between national and provincial governments and key agencies to deliver safe, reliable, and quality road networks that serve the needs of the people and stimulate local economies
